While going through the interviews and presentation of Ratan TATA and looking at the fact that TATA is supposed to make a wafer-thin margin of about 4k on every such car sold, one thing that is evident is the honesty about the mission and the larger vision of enabling the Indian middle class with a form of affordable and comfortable means of transport.

If we think about it, it is actually very difficult to do in business. Usually all big leaders start with a vision+profit intention, and during the course of action the market realities take control and the whole mission is forgotten for being ahead in the race.
Its not a joke to invest 1700 crores on the R&D of a potential project over 4-5 years and then take a low margin to fulfill the dream and to keep the promise. I mean when they are so cheap compared to their nearest competitor, it probably makes business sense for them to charge say 10 k more.

I mean look at Reliance telecom..started with Dheeru Bhai’s vision of ultra-cheap telecommunication for the masses..but somewhere down the lane all that was forgotten amidst the competition and today Reliance Telecom is just another telecom company fighting for market share..Ambanis are just another business tycoons fighting for money..And much ahead of them there is Ratan TATA, basking in the glory of his achievements. He may not be the richest one but surely the most admired business leader of today’s India.

And I am sure we’ll be all over one day.

This will have far reaching positive consequences for India as a nation. 🙂

Your blog title is extremely meaningful, and yes btw, thanks for reminding me of Jurm/Sansanee – wo maut ki saudagar, Vish-kanya etc 😛
